About the event

Participants in this workshop will learn how to create safe spaces for online trauma work  by creating a safe space together in our workshop!

We will consider many facets of offering trauma safe sessions including:

  • procedural ways to create safety well before the session happens
  • the practitioner's physical space
  • zoom/video settings and considerations
  • cultural and environmental considerations
  • creating internal safety for the practitioner
  • obtaining and honoring consent and autonomy
  • creating sociometric connections that help group members feel more included and validated
  • pacing and timing of a session
  • what it means to "hold space"
  • recognizing and managing dissociation (if time - see Demystifying Dissociation workshop for in-depth strategies for this)
  • providing closure

Participants should be willing and able to arrive on time and attend the entire session with camera on and ready to participate.  There will be one 10minute break built into the structure of the workshop.  The Learning Lab is not equipped to provide CEs - these workshops are designed to provide deeply enriching professional development experiences.
